Mammoth Mountain

On July 13, 2000, most of our group arrived at Mammoth Mountain to start our process of acclimatizing.

This is most of our group standing next to the Mammoth of Mammoth Mountain. We felt sorry for poor bystanders whom we recruited to take a picture of us...little did they know that once they agreed to do so, we'd produce a zillion cameras and keep them there for a long time!

We stayed in a condo right next to the bottom of the big gondola lift. The elevation of the condo was somewhere near 9,000' so we were able to acclimatize somewhat overnight. The condo slept all of us. We barred the snoring folk to their own rooms so the rest of us could sleep...at least those that didn't stay up to late playing Sequence.

The next morning (July 14), we ate a healthy breakfast...

...then we each paid a pricey $16 to ride to the top of Mammoth Mountain in a gondola. The elevation at the top was 11,053' and our goal was to hang out for a few hours and get used to the altitude. We hiked around on top to see how we felt. We felt good!
