"Live your life each day as you would climb a mountain. An occasional glance toward the summit keeps the goal in mind, but many beautiful scenes are to be observed from each new vantage point. Climb slowly, steadily, enjoying each passing moment; and the view from the summit will serve as a fitting climax for the journey." - Harold V. Meichert

Mt. Whitney, the tallest mountain in the 48 contiguous United States! The trail is long, the air is thin, the altitude is enormous, and God's beauty abounds everywhere!

There were 14 of us that decided to make this climb...and we decided to do it in one day! That's more than 22 miles (round trip) starting from an elevation of 8,365' (about where Yosemite's Half Dome ends!) up to 14,497.61' at the summit.

Most of the group was in excellent physical condition and most of the group prepared for the trip in the months that preceded the climb. A few slacked off...

Guess what? We ALL made it to the top and back! It definitely was NOT a walk in the park and a couple of us got pretty sick. We have an interesting story to tell.

These web pages are for our memories and since they contain a lot of technical information, they may be useful for others who plan to take the challenge. We also have some good advice for you!

Most of the images on this site are thumb nailed so you won't have to wait too long for them to load. To see the picture in detail, simply click on the image and it will expand to full size.

These two panoramic photos are worth clicking on to see the beauty closer up!
