Preparation

In preparation for this climb, our group varied greatly. Almost all climbers did a few practice climbs on various mountains in the weeks and months prior to this trip. Here are some things various individuals did to prepare:

bullet Acclimatized on Mammoth Mountain two days before the hike (we've got lots of pictures)
bullet Hiked Mt. Lassen, California (10,457') the weekend before
bullet Extensive running
bullet Lots of running (Normal routine of 3-mile runs, 2-3 x week)
bullet Some running
bullet Thinking about running
bullet One of us (Allen) climbed Mt. Whitney via the Mountaineer's Route just a few days before!
bullet Cycling
bullet Weight lifting
bullet Medford trail in the Eldorado National Forest
bullet Hiking the Pacific Crest Trail @ 9000-10000 feet for 14-15 miles
bullet Hiked Mt. Tallac (10K+')
bullet Summated Castle Peak (9500+')
bullet Hiked Andesite Peak (8700+')
bullet Lots of mental preparation
bullet "Climbed" Diamond Head, Hawaii (760') the month before (stop laughing...this was a...uh...anti-acclimation technique to...uh...further prepare the body...uh...er...yea, that's what it was...)
bullet much more...
